The right RF solution makes all the difference
We recently supported a customer who needed to connect two SMP3 connectors within a radar subsystem. The initial idea was to use flexible RF cable assemblies. However, due to the complexity of the routing, installation would have been difficult and repeatability could not be guaranteed.
The next option considered was a hand-formable cable, allowing the customer to shape the routing during assembly. While this offered more flexibility, it still introduced variability and required additional installation time.
Instead, we proposed a different approach: pre-formed semi-rigid cable assemblies.
Each cable is manufactured and bent at the factory according to the required routing, so during assembly the customer simply installs the cable in its final position. No manual bending. No guesswork. Faster assembly and consistent RF performance.
This project is a good reminder that selecting the right RF interconnect is not only about electrical performance. Mechanical integration, repeatability and ease of assembly can make a significant difference to the overall system.
