Harmonized System code
As soon as you send a package to countries outside the European customs union, you must provide detailed information about the contents of the package to the carrier and customs. In addition to the weight and the country of origin, the product must bear an HS code.
HS code stands for Harmonized System code. These codes are used by customs worldwide, so that customs know what kind of products are in the package. This allows customs to determine how much import duties or other import taxes they have to charge.
When making a shipment to countries outside the European customs union, this code must be indicated on the forms in the shipment. You can usually request your supplier for the correct HS code of a product.
